Creating Lasting Connection: A Hold Me Tight Weekend Retreat for Asian American & Cross-Cultural Couples
Saturday & Sunday, 10/28 –10/29 • 9am –5pm
Workshop Overview and Background
We are a group comprised of five couples therapists with diverse Pacific and Central Asian experiences and backgrounds. We represent a wide variety of Asian cultures from China, Japan, and Korea to the Philippines.
Over the past year, we came together to collaborate around our common interest and passion: the integration of culture into the clinical work we do with couples. We shared our attachment stories, our relationship experiences, and our processes of healing and growth. We laughed, we cried, and we connected. Through it all, we developed a deeper understanding and dialogue around how our cultural heritage shapes and affects our intimate relationships, as well as our work with Asian and cross-cultural couples.
We are delighted to invite you to a two-day weekend retreat for Asian American and cross-cultural couples based on the theory and practice of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT is an empirically-based therapy developed by Dr. Susan Johnson, which approaches couples from an attachment theory base, and provides corrective emotional bonding experiences in group or couples sessions.
This weekend retreat is the first of its kind — it is the first Hold Me Tight Weekend Retreat tailored to Asian American and cross-cultural couples in Los Angeles. We are excited to share our stories and insights with you!
Over this weekend retreat, you will learn:
The positive strengths in your relationship
How our cultural lens can impact our relationships
How to identify and defeat your primary negative cycle
Structured skill-building exercises for you and your partner with the help from expert couples therapists
How to rebuild trust through effective communication and secure bonding
How to be more accessible, responsive, and emotionally engaged with each other
How to deepen emotional connection and heal from relationship injuries
What helps cultivate romance and intimacy
